Project & design lead - Design Engine Architects - 2014

Following the completion of Les Beaucamps High School, we were asked to look at another High School site.

This was a through school, including a two form entry primary school and kindergarten. The existing buildings urgently needed to be replaced with modern teaching facilities.

Located close to the sea, the site was identified to be at risk of flooding due to sea over-topping, so a flood resistance strategy, with an earth bund, was integral to the site layout. The High School also needed to be able to expand from 600 students to 900.

Due to the flood risk and the bund, the hall and hub spaces were located at first floor level, which generated a Piano Nobile datum.

The project was progressed to Stage 4 and tender, but is currently on hold pending a review of the primary estate.
